Rogaine packing list

It's time to go run around in the bush again.  What should you pack for a rogaine?

Carry with you/wear

  • runners or trail runners
  • lightweight and quick-dry shirt and pants - no cotton
  • 3L water bladder - how full depends on how hot it is
  • small pocket knife or scissors
  • first aid kit:
    • band-aids
    • enough ibuprofen to take the max dosage for the time you are out
    • adhesive tape for securing band-aids or taping blisters
    • salt for leeches
    • compression bandage for snakebites and strapping
    • vaseline - trust me, if you get really wet you will be glad you brought it...
    • antihistamines
    • water purification tabs
    • tweezers
    • wound dressings
    • antiseptic powder
    • stingose
  • gloves
  • beanie 
  • hat
  • pealess emergency whistle
  • hootchie cord - it's light and strong, good for emergency shoelaces
  • sunscreen
  • raincoat
  • head torch, with a spare set of batteries
  • waterproof pants
  • 2 x top thermals
  • 1 x bottom thermals
  • small dry bag
  • gaiters
  • compass
  • pencil
  • emergency blanket
  • lighter
  • watch
  • toilet paper and lightweight trowel
  • mobile phone for emergencies, with the hash-house emergency number
  • spare zip-lock bags
  • high-energy food for a few hours (depends on the length of the rogaine)
  • clear safety glasses - good for protecting your eyes while pushing through scrub at night.  You can get them from a hardware store for under $10.
  • spare pair of socks - stay comfortable even after a river crossing

Leave at the tent/car/hash-house

  • sleeping bag, liner, and mat
  • down jacket
  • comfy clothes and shoes/slippers
  • towel
  • tent, peg hammer
  • spare food and water
  • powerade or similar
  • red bull for the drive home
  • plate, mug, bowl, cutlery for the hash house feast
  • camp chairs
  • card table for map marking
  • highlighters, scissors, glue, ruler, pens, pencils for map marking
  • clear contact (a few metres) for map waterproofing
  • completed indemnity form
