Kauai: Tunnels beach, Hanalei Bay

Kauai, most amazing of all the Hawaiian islands. We spent 10 days on the island and had a ball. We started in the north, staying in a great house fronting Ha'ena beach, not far from the stunning Na Pali coastline, and almost the end of the road. I'd recommend stocking up at the Costco before leaving Lihue, grocery places are very small and expensive at this end of the island.  Our Dodge Grand Caravan was completely stuffed with food, people, and luggage for the 1hr drive north.

On our first afternoon we explored tunnels beach and Maniniholo dry cave, just across the road. The part of the beach near the Haena beach parking lot is too dangerous to swim in, but apparently there is good snorkelling further around the small headland to the right protected by a reef.

On our second day it rained, and I mean really rained, so much so that our android phones kept waking us up in the middle of the night with flash flood advisories. We made the most of it and had a water fight outside :)

Things cleared up enough in the afternoon to take in some of Kauai's great scenery, with waterfalls operating in full force.

We finished the day with swimming and sunset over Hanalei Bay beach.

Almost no surf, warm water, great for kids
